Bukiwaza (weapons) Class

Aikido, as taught in its traditional form, is based on the concept of Riai. Riai means a harmony of principles, or the connection of principles in Aikido. These principles refer to the three elements that make up traditional aikido as a whole: tai jutsu (body techniques), aiki ken (sword techniques, trained with bokken or wooden sword) and aiki jo (3/4 length staff). The principles of movement used in bukiwaza training form the foundation on which the body techniques are based. It is therefore of great importance for aikido practitioners to gain an understanding of the bukiwaza techniques in order to grasp the core of the empty handed techniques.

Bukiwaza classes will be held in Copenhagen Aiki Shuren Dojo.  The classes are open classes for all levels. If it is necessary to do so, I will make one basic-level class and one for those with more bukiwaza experience. Space limitations will have a certain effect on our training weapons in the dojo, but I feel it is necessary to bring bukiwaza training into the Shuren Dojo curriculum, to create the most well-balanced training schedule possible.
